As I Lost You

Fallen on dull and rusted edges of denial;

Floors dusted with the vacancy of truth, stripped of substance and refinished with lies.

Hope sunken like a ship’s icy anchor barreling down.

It wasn’t hard to lose you.

Lips parting, but only for untruths to come tumbling out

Like subtle and sullen rain drops against the pane

The pain, deepened in the final French kiss of farewells,

It wasn’t hard to lose you.

Poisoned sharpened blades piercing still

What words cannot fix and time will not heal.

It wasn’t hard to lose you.

In the end, your heart shattered in my hands

It splintered into tiny minuscule fragments as I lost you.
